    Laser Cutting and Engraving Machines Health and Safety

    Interlocks play a crucial role in laser cutting and engraving machines. It is essential to use the correct interlock type in conjunction with a safety relay circuit for enhanced safety. Safety relays perform defined safety functions by ensuring controlled and safe movement stoppage, monitoring the position of movable guards, and interrupting closing movements in case of intervention. Interlockings can be mechanical, electrical (electro-mechanical or relay-based), or electronic/computer-based. To maintain the safety rating of the component, a safety relay is required.

    Thinklaser use a number of interlock technologies on our Lightblade Laser Cutting and Engraving Machine, ranging from a full electro-mechanical interlock with a safety relay circuit on the main door to the laser chamber, to magnetic reed switch interlocks supported with key locks on the laser tube access door. The remaining doors and removeable panels require tools or keys to open for added safety.

    Fume Extraction

    Fumes are the hidden safety issue when ever processing materials with a Laser Cutting and Engraving Machine. We always recommend the use of a suitably matched fume extraction system with pre-filters and chemical filters, such as the BOFA AD 500 iQ laser fume extractor
