The Blue-Bot Bluetooth Programmable Floor Robot takes hands-on coding a step further by combining simple button-based programming with Bluetooth connectivity, giving teachers greater flexibility as pupils develop their coding skills.
Children can begin by programming Blue-Bot directly using the directional controls on its back. They enter a sequence of commands and then watch the robot carry out their instructions, providing an accessible way to introduce algorithms, sequencing, prediction and debugging.
Blue-Bot can also connect via Bluetooth to compatible tablets and computers, allowing pupils to create programs digitally and send them wirelessly to the robot. This provides a natural progression from physical button-based programming to working with an on-screen programming environment.
A distinctive feature of Blue-Bot is its transparent shell, which allows children to see components inside the robot. This can help encourage curiosity about robotics and provide a useful starting point for discussions about how digital devices work.
Blue-Bot can remember sequences of up to 200 steps and moves forwards or backwards in 15 cm increments, with 90° left and right turns. These predictable movements make it particularly well suited to Blue-Bot and Bee-Bot floor mats, grids and teacher-created programming challenges.
It can also interact with other Blue-Bots and Bee-Bots and offers audio functionality, creating additional possibilities for collaborative and interactive classroom activities.

Begin by asking pupils to program Blue-Bot directly using its buttons to travel between two locations on a floor mat. Before pressing GO, encourage them to predict where each command will take the robot.
As their confidence develops, pupils can use a compatible device to create their program digitally before sending it to Blue-Bot via Bluetooth. They can compare different routes, find the shortest sequence or deliberately introduce an incorrect command for a partner to debug.
