Bee-Bot Starter Pack

The Bee-Bot Starter Pack brings together a Bee-Bot programmable floor robot and a selection of popular classroom accessories, making it an ideal starting point for schools introducing coding and computational thinking.

At the heart of the pack is a rechargeable Bee-Bot, designed to give young learners a simple, physical introduction to programming. Pupils enter directional commands using the buttons on Bee-Bot itself and can then watch their sequence of instructions come to life as the robot moves.

The pack includes four activity mats: a Treasure Island Mat, Busy Street Mat and two Transparent Grid Mats. These provide teachers with a variety of ready-to-use and customisable environments for creating coding challenges. The transparent grids are particularly versatile, as teachers can place their own pictures, words, numbers or other learning materials underneath to create activities linked to different subjects.

Also included are 49 sequence cards, which allow pupils to physically plan and arrange their instructions before entering them into Bee-Bot. This makes abstract programming concepts more visual and accessible, while encouraging children to predict, test and debug their programs.

The set is completed with 10 white clip-on shells. Pupils can decorate these to transform Bee-Bot into different characters, providing opportunities to incorporate coding into storytelling and creative cross-curricular projects.

Classroom Activity Ideas

Begin with the themed mats and ask pupils to plan a route between two locations. Before programming Bee-Bot, children can use the sequence cards to lay out the instructions they think the robot will need.

The transparent grids can then be adapted for different lessons. Place numbers underneath for a maths challenge, letters or words for literacy, or pictures relating to a current classroom topic.

The white shells provide another creative option: pupils can design a character and then create a story involving a journey that their customised Bee-Bot must complete.
