Bee-Bot / Blue-Bot Changeable Maze

The Bee-Bot / Blue-Bot Changeable Maze is a versatile classroom resource that combines hands-on maze building with programming, problem-solving and computational thinking.

The set includes a 75 × 75 cm maze board and 30 removable walls. The walls can be repositioned to create different pathways, allowing teachers and pupils to build a wide variety of routes and adapt activities as children's programming skills develop. These specifications are confirmed directly by TTS for the current product.

Once a maze has been created, pupils can plan how Bee-Bot or Blue-Bot should travel from the starting point to a chosen destination. They must break the route into individual movements, arrange those instructions in the correct sequence and then program their robot to test their solution.

If the robot reaches a dead end or takes the wrong turn, pupils can review their instructions and make changes. This provides a practical introduction to debugging, helping children understand that programs can be tested, corrected and improved. TTS specifically identifies creating and debugging simple programs, critical thinking and problem-solving among the learning opportunities supported by the maze.

Because the layout is changeable, the resource can be adapted for different ability levels. Teachers can begin with simple routes containing only a few walls before introducing longer and more complex mazes as pupils become more confident.

Classroom Activity Ideas

Start by creating a simple maze and ask pupils to plan the route before touching Bee-Bot's controls. They can explain or record their intended sequence and then program the robot to see whether their solution works.

For a collaborative challenge, one group can build a maze for another group to solve. Pupils could also compare different solutions to the same maze or investigate whether they can find a route using fewer commands.
